(P5) Offline Edit

Offline Edit -

The offline edit for our advertisement is where we will generate the base structure of our entire promo. This means that we order clips and timings to create a sensible order in our advertisement. This edit will have no visual changes, it will only involve inputting clips, blank spaces and sound. The later online edit will involve all of the more interesting editing techniques such as images and masking.

I used this offline edit to structure and visualise what the final advertisement may look like, and also give me us chance to find some ideas for the editing. This also means that we can play around with the style of the video, and move video clips around to suit how we want it to feel. This all adds up to create  a prefect final video that fills the criteria, and fits the style that we need.

Creating an Offline Edit -

I started by downloading the clips from a shared OneDrive file that I created for the group. I sued this so that I cloud import the photos from my camera to my phone, and then upload them straight to OneDrive. Then I imported all of these clips into Adobe Premier, and assured that the quality of the video clips was good.

After this, I started dragging the video clips into the software, and began choosing the videos I wanted to use and the order I wanted to use them in. I made sure that the clips followed a chronological sequence, as some of the clips were filmed to come before other ones. for example, the videos of the amp being turned on and the guitar being plugged in should come before the playing to maintain continuity and realism throughout the advertisement.

This screenshot shows the interface of Adobe Premier 2021/23, and shows how I have dragged in the clips of varied lengths and cut some of the end of the videos that I do not need. In order to cut these clips, I have used the razor tool to choose certain points in the clips, and then left clicked to clip them short. After this I will press on the cut clip and then press delete.  This means that we can make the clips fit into the video much better, and remove any mistakes that were made in filming to make sure we only show the clips that look good. This means that the audience will be more likely to enjoy the video as it is free of mistakes.

Here I have added in some more of the clips I have chosen to use. I have also added in a gap, this will be for any post production effects that we will use between the music. The screenshot also shows how all of my clips are in the same channel. This is because I want them to run smoothly throughout the video.
This screenshot is another example of me picking where to cut videos short. In this clip, the aperture of the camera changes at the end of the shot and the entire screen goes blurry. In order to fix this, I cut the clip short by around half a second, This means that all of the video clips that are seen in the video are in focus.

This final screenshot is of the finished offline edit. The total of the video ranged to 30 seconds, even though we had over 2 minutes of clips. This is because after careful selection, we decided not to use most of the clips as they were either shot badly, did not fit with the video or they were overexposed/underexposed.

This only took around an hour of my time, as all I had to do was import the video clips, cut and paste them and then make sure it is all in the right order. This offline edit has benefitted us at it means that we now have a base set of video clips that we can edit from, and we have more time to play around with the possibilities of editing.
This also means that if we for whatever reason need to start the edit again, we have a blank video that we can use.
